COCAINE ABUSE

Cocaine abuse has been a problem in the United States since the late 1800's and early 1900's.  Today the problem continues.  The war on drugs has been a miserable failure in terms of stemming the tide.  What is desperately needed is more treatment, more drug courts to mandate treatment, and serious look at how we respond to health problems.

Symptoms of Cocaine Abuse:

If you are wondering if a loved one is doing cocaine there are some telltale signs to look for.  For a short period of time after taking cocaine, starting right after taking it, the person will likely have a lot of energy, be talkative, feel on top of the world, and may have a decreased need for both sleep and food.  They may also have a red nose and red eyes.

In addition to these you might also look for some other signs of cocaine abuse.  These could include spending lots of money with no explanation of where it has gone; staying up late and sleeping odd hours; changing friends can also be a sign as can drug paraphernalia used for taking cocaine.

Later symptoms may include depression, moodiness, anger.  Certainly lying can be a sign of drug use.  If you think someone you know might be doing cocaine, talk to them about it.  Tell them your concerned and offer to help the get help.
